Mr Morrison, at the Speech Day of the Queen’s Road Commercial InstU tute, Dalston, England, said:— “ There is just a danger in th« world to-day that physical fitness an<J appearance—a capacity to make certain movements with regularity and precision—are becoming an unbalanced ideal. “ Indeed, there are some nations in the world who are deliberately discouraging thought and independent judgment among young people and ar* substituting a mechanical obedience, an uncritical acceptance of ideas from others and the cultivation of physical fitness alone. “ I am all for physical fitness, for 4 fit body is helpful to a fit brain. But let it be remembered that no country can permanently prosper on fit bodies alone. “Countries which discourage mental alertness and independence and creative individual thought are countries that are committing a crime against human dignity, and in the _ end must destroy their own potential greatness.’’-
