CIRCUS POPULARITY

PHILIP WORTH GIVES REASON Give the people what they want, tell them that you have it, and they will come and get it. “That,” claims Philip Worth, “is the reason why this circus is ever increasing in popularity.” Since Wirths visited New Zealand two years ago they have made a tour of Australia, encircling the entire continent, _ playing no less than 459 towns and cities, and travelling more than 39,576 miles, and the big new show which Wirths have brought to the Dominion has never failed to garner the entire applause of Australian audiences. In the ring you will see representatives of 11 different nations. Chief among the many new acts are the Four Kobes, presenting specialty foot juggling, hand balancing, and acrobatic feats; the Three Houstons in marvellous feats of balancing high in mid-air on the top of poles; the Four Dare-devil Onotos, in aerial motor cycle feats performed in mid-air, Leonard Onoto riding a cycle high up in the big tent and throwing backward and forward somersaults with the cycle travelling at a great speed; the Ten Ziganies, phenomenal senors and senoritas, introducing revelations in whirlwind displays of Spanish acrobats; and not forgetting Wirth’s popular zoo and new big supermenagerie, including a herd of nine elephants, 18 cages of lions, tigers, jaguars, baboons, monkeys, orang-outangs, panthers, bears, and a complete stud of beautiful and marvellously-trained horses; also Harold, the amazing orangoutang, in comic antics, who is always a favourite with the children. Wirths will appear in Dunedin for a short season only on the Caledonian Ground, commencing with a gala performance on Monday next, at 8 p.m. Matinees for the children will he given on Wednesday and Saturday, at 2.30 p.m. The menagerie will be open each afternoon from 4 to 5, when a lecture will he given on the animals. The box plan is at Begg’s Music Shop.
