THE WAR IN CHINA.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —We think “ Catholic ” is right as to moral sanctions against nations that act the “ bad boy ” and do not condone with “ civilised sense ” regarding world sanctities. Readers will remember my strong protest as a Christian minister against a number of noms de plume concerning the Spanish question, when the obvious Roman Catholic eye-wash was being Steely sprayed on a perplexed public. I would suggest to “ Catholic ” that, if he does not hear protests against the great nations he has mentioned, he should go where he can. We abhor this lax way of using one man to blacken every section of the Christian community. It is certainly over the odds. Let “ Catholio ” reserve that easy complacent talk about Russia, about her war machines and peace. Precently “ Catholic ” will understand what I mean, and I do not think the writer is the only one who understands the significance of these words. “ Catholic ” may be a very good, placid, peace-loving, boycotting Christian, who, of course, does not foam at the mouth, but expects someone else to. What a big statement “ Catholic ” makes at the end of the letter, one which the biggest part of the thinking community cahnot swallow—e.g., “ Russia, the country that is accused of being Godless, is the only country that leads the world for peaoe!” Of all the unadulterated mush I have ever read this beats the harld. There is only one answer to every true Catholic. What about Britain? Tome “ Catholic ” is like the mountain in travail that “ brought forth a mouse.” If “ Catholic ” has nothing better to say, let them put “ pseudo ” before their noms de plume.—l am, etc., James K. Reid. November 27.
