WINDOW-SILL GARDENING

Many people take special pride in contriving to make their window sills gay during the best part of the year by utilising boxes filled with flowering and fme-foliaged plants. Some prefer to grow the plants in pots and place them in the boxes when ready, and there is something to be said in favour of this system, as one can replace them as occasion requires. On the other hand, those planted in boxes of prepared soil make luxurious growth. Gay nasturtiums are very suitable, and if a few plants of lobelia are included, the effect is very bright. Verbenas, too, are among tho best of things to use. To keep the plans in good order after first giving the boxes a real good watering, give an application of liquid manure. Always give clear water first; this enables the manure to be made full use of.—Manawatu ‘ Daily Times.’
