FALSE PRETENCES
FRAUDS ON EMPLOYMENT FUND A GAOL PENALTY [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 12. When confronted with four charges of false pretences in the Police Court to-day William Moody, a married man, with one child, had nothing to say. Tho prosecuting officer Said that from March to August of this year Moodyobtained casual work at the waterfront, and declared his earnings as nil continuously. Of 17 false declarations 14 resulted in excess payments of £23, while nine of the false declarations were made after the magistrate’s warning in May. Mr Orr Walker said that if there were any more of these deliberate cases he would consider sending the men charged to the Supreme Court. Ho sentenced Moody to one month’s imprisonment on each of two charges, and fined him £l2 10s on the other two charges.
