HEAVY DAMAGES AWARDED
A PLATELAYER'S CLAIM [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 12. General damages amounting to £I,OOO and special damages (£9l) were awarded by the’ jury in the Supreme Court to Georgo Henry Quin, of Wellington, a platelayer, against the Railway Department. The claim arose from an accident in the railway yards at Thorndon in September, 1936, when Quin was helping to put a derailed wagon back on the rails. Permanent disablement through the negligence of the department was alleged. The Crown denied negligence.
