HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES [Per United Press Association.] WEMdNGTON, November 11. The House met at 2.30 p.m. _' The Prime Minister gave notice to move that on and after next Monday the House would sit on Mondays for the remainder of the session. An amendment introduced by Governor’s Message to the New Plymouth Airport Bill was introduced and read a first time and referred to the committee on the Bill. . The recommendation that the Clerk of Works Bill'should not he proceeded with was made by the Labour Bills Committee. Disappointment with the committee’s report was expressed by Mr Chapman, who contended that it was advisable that clerks of works should have legal protection, and those who employed them should he assured that they were capable of carrying out their duties. The recommendation was adopted. , An amendment was made to the Motueka Borough Council Empowering Bill, the alteration being merely of a grammatical nature. It was agreed to, and the Bill was referred back to the Legislative Council. An amendment to the Ngaruawahia Borough Council Empowering Bill by the Legislative Council was not agreed to by the Local Bills Committee. Mr Lee Martin, who is in charge of the Bill, explained that under the measure the Ngaruawahia Borough Council was empowered to charge admission to that part of the borough known as “ The .Point i’. on regatta day, which, was held
'on St. Patrick’s Day. If St; Patrick’* Day fell on a Sunday the regatta was held on the nearest convenient Saturday. The Legislative Council’s' amendment proposed to restrict' to_ th» two days before or after St. Patrick’s Day the time when the charge could ha made. Three managers were appointed! to meet the managers ’ of the council' and discuss the matter. The Dunedin City Empowering Bill was withdrawn on the motion ,of it* sponsor, Mr Munro. The New Plymouth Airport Bill* making provision for the New Plymouth Borough Council to purchase an' additional area for the New Plymouth! airport, was put through all stages and! passed. Mr Smith, moving the second! reading of the Bill, explained that the! amendment introduced earlier in tha afternoon provided for extension of th« loan provisions in the Bill from £7,000 to £12,000. The Bill submitted, he said* contained with slight variations practically all the provisions of the original Act.. He added that if 'land planes were used for the Tasman service New; Plymouth would have a'claim for being the logical terminus for the service. The arbitration amendment was puli through all stages and passed. It is reported elsewhere. The House rose at 1 J.Q.® P-ffi.
