TO-MORROW’S CUP MEETING RICCARTON TRACK WORK HUNTING CAT AN UNLIKELY STARTER [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, November 6. The weatner was line but cold when training work started at Riccarton this morning while even after the sun broke through there was a strong wind. A few horses sprinted on the outside of the course proper and others on the plough which was fast, but most were given only useful pace work on the plough. Lustral opened proceedings over sis furlongs in Imin 16 l-ssec, Sigurd following a little later in Imm l/sec. Laughing Lass was slightly in front of Oratory all through a five furlong spin in Imin Isec. while P.aper Slipper, assisted by Haughty Winner, over the last three, registered similar time. These were two smart gallops. Friesland led Lowenberg easily oyer three furlongs in 39sec, Lickem doing 38sec. Owlsgleam and Screamer went well to register Imin 1 4-ssec for five furlongs, while Pelmet and > Rabble sprinted half a mile in 49 3-ssec. .. After breakfast Stolen March and Made Money went half a mile in Lord Nuffield and Daring Deed did five furlangs in Imin 2 3-ssec, Combat following oyer six furlongs easily in Imin 19 3-ssec. Tauramai strode along freely m a working gallop over seven furlongs' on the course. Sunee was an early worker going with great dash to register 48 3-ssec for half a mile. The Stewards’ Handicap candidate, Emissary, died this morning after work. He was very lame on leaving the track and died later. Death is believed to have been duo to an internal haemorrhage.
