BOYS' BRIGADE NOTES

by Chum

“ The Object o I the Brigade shall be the advancement of Christ** Kingdom among Boys, and the promotion of habits of Obedience,. Reverence, Discipline, Self-respect, and all that tends towards a true Christian Blenlines*.”

COMPANY INSPECTIONS. The time of company inspections is now upon us, and the inspection night is one of the events of the season in a 8.8. company. The annual display is an opportunity of showing the company work to the parents and friends of the boys, and therefore no efforts should be spared to make this show as perfect in its way as possible, for the appearance of everyone in,the company must be smart and trim. The ambition of the officers should be to let their friends leave feeling that they could have enjoyed more, rather than that they should suffer a surfeit and be bored. THE OFFICERS’ NOTE BOOK. Like its founder, the Boys’ Brigade always stands for duty. Witness that single word of our motto, “ steadfast.” It means that life (as God’s word is always teaching) is a fight and that it can only bo, won by holding on. Plainly it is all-important to be steadfast. There is no happier fellowship in the world than the Boys’ Brigade. But life is not all holidaying and amusement—we should quickly tire of it if it were. It is full of hard tasks and stern temptations. There is need, then, to be steadfast and not flinch; need to stand firm and fast for God, for duty and right, for help and kindness to others. 7th DUNEDIN. Last Friday night saw a large attendance of members at the weekly parade, when practically the whole time was spent in preparation for the company’s annual inspection and display, which is to be held next Saturday night. The thorough planning and solid work put in during the past few months should result in an effort worthy of the company’s reputation, and officers and boys look forward to seeing a record gathering this year In spite of bad weather conditions, only one absentee was recorded when the company paraded at the Northeast Valley Presbyterian Church last Sunday night to join with brigade companies throughout the world in the celebration of founder’s day, the day when all members recall with thankful hearts the foundation of the movement 54 years ago. Bth DUNEDIN. The company held a parade on Saturday night. Drill was taken by the company lieutenant, who also conducted physical drill. Four boys were examined for their signalling certificate. one being successful. The parade ended with a game of Rugby.

11th DUNEDIN. After Mr Roseveare had led the de* votions, drill was practised. A suigsong and several games followed, after which the cup was presented to No. 3 squad for a month. One new member was present. The ambulance squad commenced training for stretcher drill, most of the boys having passed foil their certificates at the last exam. 15th DUNEDIN. The evening commenced with a talk and Bible reading by Mr Millar. Following this came semaphore signalling practice. On the previous week a competition between the two squads waa held, the winner being the B squad* Mr Grant, who judged the competition, gave some useful advice.
