PRIMARY SCHOOLS' BIG DAY MEETING AT LOGAN PARK One of the outstanding meetings of the athletic year is the Otago State primary schools’ championships, which will be held at Logan Park on Saturday, October 30, commencing at 10.30. The list of championship events is given below; — Boys: 50 yards under 10, 200 yards four-a-side relay under 11, 75 yards under 11, 100 yards under 12, broad jump under 12, 440 yards relay under 12, 75 yards hurdles under 13, 100 yards under 13, high jump under 13, hop-step--and-jump under 13, 100 yards under 14, 880 yards relay under 14, 100 yards hurdles under 14, high jump under 14, broad jump under 14, hop-step-and-jump under 14. All members of each team compete in all events in this competition, teams taking each event by themselves, the scores being obtained as follow : Sprints: All of the team start off scratch; time of first and last boy is averaged, and gives time for team. Broad jump: Pit-side marked with pegs 4in apart, pit Bft from take-off; competitor scores 1 for jumping into pit and an extra. point for each peg passed. Hop-step-and-jump: Pit 20ft from takeoff, pegs 6in apart from 16ft. Relay race: Each boy to run 55 yards. _ In the event of a tie, the teams scoring the highest marks m relay races will be declared the winner. In the championship and non-cham-pionship events the maximum number of entries allowed in each event is two. The championship shield is awarded to the primary school or sub-association whose pupils gain the highest aggregate in boys’ and girls’ championships, points being 3 for first, 2 for second, and 1 for third.

No competitor may enter for more than two championship events and one relay race, or one championship event and two relay races—a wise provision. In case of a school which is not entering a relay team, any pupil may enter for three solo championship events.
