AUCKLANDER REACHES 1,000 RUNS DAY OF INTERESTIHfi CRICKET HAMPSHIRE IN THE LEAD (From the Special Correspondent of the United Press Association with, the New Zealand Team.) BOURNEMOUTH, August 23. (Received August 24, at 10.15 a.m.) The weather was fine and the wicket in good order for the resumption of the match. It was a day of interesting cricket. Vivian, who is now batting better than at any part of the tour, brilliantly compiled his first century on the tour and reached 1,000 runs in first class matches. He drove excepionally hard and cut and pulled strongly, hitting two 6’s with straight on drives atid 11 4’s. He reached his century in 150 minutes against steady bowling, supported by smart fielding. Herman and Heath howled with plenty of life, and Creese was accurate with his left-hand slows. Moloney helped in a partnership which was worth 97 runs. New Zealand had five wickets down for 169, but a fine partnership between Weir and Carson added 112 runs. Carson played

very soundly, his score including five 4’s, all strong 4eg liits. Weir was workmanlike, driving cleanly and placing well on the leg side. The light faded quickly after tea, and New Zealand lost the last five wickets quickly against the steady bowling of Creese. The homo team hatted half an.hour. The New Zealanders are a popular attraction at Bournemouth. On Saturday over 4,000 paid for admission, and the takings amounted to £224, a record for the ground for the season.
