Golden Eagle was backed down to a short price for the Improvers’ Handicap, and after losing several seconds at the start caught the leaders two furlongs from home and won comfortably. Only Rocks Ahead and Southern Smile were solidly backed in the Dash Saddle Handicap, and after waiting on Noble Prince, Sterling Lady, and Aristotle for five furlongs, had ran past and had the finish to themselves, the Invercargill mare having something in reserve to beat Southern Smile by a neck. King’s Warrior, Tempest, Cloudy Range, and Reporter carried heavy, wagering cm the King George Handicap. Llewellyn’s Pride and Pot Luck led the field for a mile and a-half. Both Reporter and King’s Warrior were nicely placed when Reporter fell and brought down Lucky Jack and Tempest. This left Llewellyn’s Pride, Pot Luck, and King’s Warriar the o.nly horses with a chance, and' at. the top of the straight King’s Warrior challenged and ran home comfortably from Port Luck, with Llewellyn’s Pride a good third.
