Brigadier-general Crozler told the ‘ Daily Mail ’ that his shooting of a subaltern in the Great _ War was not reported to the War Office. Colonel Graham Seton Hutchison, who was the first chairman of the Old Contemptible Association, stated that, as related in the official history of the war, he was obliged to turn a machine gun on British troops at Meteran in 1918. A War Office official told the ‘ Daily Mail ’ that if there were no official records of what Brigadier-general Cxozier described, a strict official inquiry should he held. [‘ The Men I Killed ' is the title of a book written by Brigadier-general Crozler, who describes how he himself shot a young British officer who was running away when he had orders to hold the line at all costs. “ Panic spreads so easily,” the author said. Ho also ordered machine guns and rifles to be trained on fleeing Portuguese allies. On another occasion he himself shot an infuriated British soldier who was attacking a French woman during a retreat. Ho says other officers did similarly.
