LYRIC CHOIR
On Monday next, in His Majesty’s Theatre,, the Lyric Choir, conducted by Mr John T. Leech, nil] present Donizetti’s, delightful opera, ‘ t'iglia del Reggimento ’ (‘ The Daughter of the Regiment ’). ft is only on rare occasions that this beautiful opera,.is heard, and the Lyric Choir will present it for the tirst time in Dunedin, Its tunefulness, brilliance in ensemble, snappy military choruses, and melodic charm are invested in the music of the opera. It will bring back memories to the old folk and charm the young people. Miss Anne White will sing the part of Maria,. and will have ample scope for her lyric soprano voice in the aria ‘ Convien Partir ’ and ‘ To My Heart What is Wealth.’ Mr Richard Duerdin’s powerful baritone and vigorous style will fit the,part of the Sulpezio. The tenor part of Toni will be sung by Mr C.-R. Williamson; the Countess of Berhenfeld will be in the hands of Miss Phyllis Clare (mezzo-soprano), and Mr John Devereaux will ho the Corporal and Ortensio. Many choruses are allotted to the choir, which revels in the stirring Rataflan chorus. Additional soloists are Mrs W. Hall Masters (mezzo-soprano), Miss Ruth D. Sell (contralto), and Miss Dorothy Barron (lyric soprano). The accompanists are Miss Dorothy Johnstone and Miss Sybil Sa&g&i are advertised.
