TRAFFIC CONTROL. —Dunedin still wrestles with its traffic, problem, and an idea, which might have been borrowed from Chicago, was tried out yesterday by the traffic department. This motor car with loud speakers mounted on the hood, was parked beside the ‘Evening Star ’ building, and for the greater part. of the afternoon comments and orders were barked (greatly to the distraction of the many earnest workers within the building) at the traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian. The idea, seemingly, was to educate the users of the intersection in the correct observance of the traffic lights. Commendable as the idea might be in theory, it possessed an element of comedy in its practice, and entertained a good-sized gallery. It would be a good notion first to educate the public to take notice of the loud speakers, as large numbers of cars ordered to halt and pedestrians ordered back to the pavement were, apparently, quite unaware they were being addressed.
