BEATEN BY ROAD SERVICES
STEAMER WITHDRAWN [L’ej; Unitkij Tress Association.] .UCKhAXI). August; 9. Once one of the most flourishing coastal passenger runs in Now Zealand and now one of tho oldest services conducted by the Northern Steamship Company, tho AudklandThames passenger trade, has suffered almost its final blow. Unable to meet the fast road competition, the company is withdrawing tho steamer Kawau .and replacing her by tho Pareto, which will take cargo only. Only one passenger trip will now be made a week, that taken by the Ilarutl every Monday. It is probable it will be only a matter of time before the passenger trade lapses altogether.
