NORTH OTAGO TREE-PLANTING
To-morrow the North Otago Treeplanting Association will hold its inaugural tree-planting ceremony, beginning at 11 a.m. The ceremony will take place about a quarter of a mile south of the Waitaki railway bridge, on the Railway Reserve, where about 30 specimen trees will be planted. The president (Mr M. Austin) will open the proceedings, and addresses on the significance of Arbor Day will be delivered by the mayor (Mr M. F._E. Cooney), the deputy mayor (Mr K. Familton), Mr J. Rodman (chairman of the Waitaki County Council), and Mr R. K. Ireland (chairman of the Oamaru Harbour Board). Trees will be planted by those previously mentioned and also by the president of the Beautifying Society (Dr R. S. Orbell), Dr A. Douglas, and Mr P. Hargreaves. The ceremony will inaugurate a big tree-planting campaign in the Waitaki.
