COURSING AT OAMARU

CHRISTCHURCH ROC WINS THE CUP With the hares in splendid order on Saturday, some interesting coursing was seen at the Oamaru plumpton in the contest for tho South Island Challenge Championship Cup, which is competed for annually between four dogs from each of the ’ Christchurch, North Otago, Dunedin, and South Otago clubs. The cup went to the Christ-church-owned dog Waiata, which had a meritorious win, with the Oamaru dog, Even Money, in second place. Mr O. R. Wise was in the judge’s box and gave every satisfaction. The slipping of Messrs Mitchell and G. Barr also met with approval. Results;—

Mr J. W. Harrison’s Even Money (Oamaru) beat Mr J. Perkins’s Sage Prince (Christchurch). Mr T. McDowell’s Bev’s Worry (Dunedin) beat Mr J. Smith’s Golden Worry (South Otago). Mr R. Smart’s Waiata (Christchurch) beat Mr G. Duncan’s Willie Win (South Otago) Mr W. Currie’s Dad’s Worry (Dunedin) beat Mr G. Smart’s Desert Storm (Oamaru). Mr J. Webb’s Happy Nancy (Oamaru) beat Mr C. At a smoke concert at night the visitors to Oamaru were entertained by the North Otago Club, Mr Graham Macpherson occupying the chair. A tribute was paid to the services given to coursing in North Otago by Mr O. R. Wise (judge), and Messrs F. Mitchell and G. Barr (slippers). The following toasts were honoured : n National Coursing Club” (Mr F. Mitchell; Mr J. Benson), The Winners ” (Mr G. Macpherson; Mr R.
