O.J.G. MEETING TRACK WORK AT RIGGARTON [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, August G. Following overnight frost the sun shone brightly this morning, and conditions were pleasant for training operations at Riccarton. The ground, however, remained soft after rain earlier in the week. No. 8 grass track was open for fast work. It was patronised by a few horses, but most of them were given only short sprintsMost of the work consisted of steady pacing on the sand. Burglar went twice round tho grass track at a sound pace. He was moving freely, and was ail right after his task. Brigadoro, a late arrival, did strong work on the sand. He looks very well. The present intention of fais ownertrainer is not to give the horse any jumping before tho Grand National Steeplechase, in which case he will take on tho race without any previous experience of tho fences. Irish Comet worked at a useful pace on the sand. His rider, J. F. Fergus, is due to arrive to-morrow morning, when the Auckland horse will be schooled, possibly over tho steeplechase course. Red Sun was out doing strong pace work. Ho has made a. great improvement in the joint that gave trouble over tho week-end. Kelly the Crow was given a school once round the fences in the middle and jumped them well. Culverdeu jumped in good style over three hurdles. Silver Streak, Mount Val, Petersham, and Scrap arrived from Oamaru last night. The AVest Coast horses, Hunting Bag and Land Raid, were sent homo last night, both being amiss. , L. J. Ellis was out riding useful work on a_ number of horses. He stated that his injured shoulder was giving no trouble now, and that he would be riding at the Grand National Meeting next weeik.
