JOINT SCROLL DEBATE
VICTORIA COLLEGE'S SIXTEENTH VICTORY [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 5> For the sixteenth time, Victoria College, Wellington, won the shield for the Joynt Scroll Debate between the New Zealand university colleges in the thirty-third contest held at Auckland last evening. The subject was, ‘ That Democracy Has Failed.’ 1 In the first debate, Mr A. R. Perry opened for Victoria in the affirmative, Mr D. L. Wood (Otago leader) replying. Other speakers were Messrs S. G. Andrews (Victoria) and M. G.' O’Callaghan (Otago). The second debate, between Canterbury and Auckland, was broadcast. The speakers were; Canterbury—affirmative,, Messrs B. J. Wilson and M. Widdup; Auckland—Messrs H. T. George and E. K. Braybrqoke. . , ‘ The judges, Mr Julius Hogben, Mr-J; W. Shaw.' and the Rev. Gladstone Hughes, plated Victoria first, with 191 points, Auckland nest with 179. * Andrews' ' whs adjudged the pest speaker, with George on© point behind.
