—Ministerial.— The Postmaster-General and Minister or Defence (Hon. F. Jones) returned to Dunedin from Invercargill by this morning’s train. He will be engaged on departmental business to-morrow, and on Saturday he will open the new school at Caversham, The Minister will leave on Sunday night for Christchurch, and will probably, be back in Wellington on Tuesday. Mr L. E. Macassey, who has been appointed referee of the WellingtouSpringbok match, travelled north by this morning’s express. v Mr Stuart Callender left to-day on a holiday visit to the North Island. Mr N. Parata travelled to Christchurch to-day. - Mr A. L. Smith left on his return to Wellington this morning. Mr Colin Holmes went north this morning, bound for Wellington. Mr T. B. Wright, branch manager of Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. Ltd., at "Wanganui, has been transferred to establish the company’s interests in Melbourne. He was the recipient of a silver tea service recently at a gathering of about 40 of the company’s clients in the town. He will bo succeeded by Mr S. J. Sieve rx. A recent ‘ Gazette ’ anonunces tho promotion of Lieutenant J. L. Grant, of Timaru, to the rank of captain. Ho is a son of Major Grant, who lost his life on Gallipoli. Captain Grant is ai member of the Ist Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, having joined the regiment in 1925. He has since served in mere than one North Island regiment, but on his return to Timaru xesumed' membership of his old unit. Mr Ralph Malcolm, on his retirement from the Dunedin Stock Exchange, was presented with' a set of inscribed pipes yesterday 'afternoon by the chairman (Mr Harman Reeves), on behalf of members. In returning thanks, *Mr Malcolm spoke of the happy relations that had existed with other member* during his seven years ou the Exchange. Colonel E. R. Smith and Mr H. K. Poppelwell also spoke. Mr A. Smith left to-day on a holiday visit to the North Island. At the annual meeting of the Waitaki High School Old Boys’ Association at Oamaru last night, a motion of sympathy was passed with. Sir W.
