PORT CHALMERS BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting last night in the pavilion was presided over by Mr T. Alathewson. The Chairman said he had expected to see a larger attendance, but he welcomed the old “ sports ” once more. During the year the club had lost by death Mr J, M'Lachlan, one of the founders, and a resolution of sympathy was carried. The annual report stated that the green had received a liberal amount of top-dressing, manure, and seed, and it should be in good playing order for the ensuing season. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the Chairman mentioned that the past season had been a hard one owing to the bad .weather. A full programme of Saturday matches had been drawn up, and but for the weather the season would have been something of a record season. Mr W. Lang ana Mr J. Emerson had attended all the functions regularly. Those, two members had excelled in that respect. Lady friends of the club had always been a great help. The prizes for club fixtures would bo presented next week. The balance sheet compared favourably with those of other seasons. The billiard table was a valuable fixture. _ The secretary was congratulated on his attention to club affairs, and the state of finances was largely due to his care in conducting the business side of the club’s activities. Members would be nleased, to hear that Mr A. Bell, one of the old members, was recovering from a severe illness. . Mr J. Watson noticed that the debit balance was about the same as last year, but as two debentures had been redeemed the position was satisfactory. Mr Willmott had carried out his secretarial duties very satisfactorily. The election of officers resulted: —Mr P. Jenks, president; Mr J. Chettleburgh, vice-president; Messrs J. Emerson, D. Middleton, and D. M'Lean. General Committee; Messrs J. Murray, E. Adams, D. Middleton, Billiards Committee; the president and Mr F. Smith, delegates to centre; Mr J. Emerson, auditor; Mr W. J. Wilson, selector. Mr Mathewson, in retiring from the chair, acknowledged his indebtedness to members for the courtesy and support extended to him. , Mr Jenks said he appreciated his election to the chair. Despite the bad weather of the past season Mr Mathewson had come through with flying colours. The appointment of a greenkoeper was left to the General Committee, the green supervisor to be consulted. It was decided that the club ties were to be the same as last season; also that six rinks be played in interclub matches. Mr W. G. Love paid a tribute to the secretary, the retiring president, and the green supervisor (Mr W. Lang). An appreciation of Mr Lang’s services was minuted on the motion of Mr W. J. Wilson. As selector last season Mr Wilson submitted an analysis of the season’s play. In the interelub matches the noints scored were 12.44 for and 14.66 against.
