DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE BANKS UP, INDUSTRIALS DOWN Although industrial and Australian mining shares were fractionally weaker this morning, banks continued the recovering movements begun yesterday, New Zealands moving up sharply to business at £2 5s 3d. Australian mining shares were affected by London, and a general all-round easing resulted. The contributing issue of Broken Hill Proprietary was struck off the list to-day, the shares being now fully paid up. New Zealand Breweries were also quoted new issue, paid up 10s and carrying a 15s liability, the rights haying _ expired. The new issue met a good inquiry, buyers appearing at £1 14s, as compared with buyers’ quotation for the ordinary issue of £2 8s 3d. The banking section improved on all quotations. Now Zealands rose sharply to buyers £2 ss, with sellers 3d away. Commercials -firmed to a close market at 18s 4d and 18s sd, while Unions improved to buyers £lO 15s. National Insurance continued to firm, and had inquiries to-day at 17s 6d. Southland Frozen Meats (paid and pref.) were wanted at £4, a holder of tho paid issue quoting £4 12s 6d. ' Broken Hill Proprietary shares were slightly easier, buyers retiring to £3 19s 7d, with sellers offering at £4. G. J. Coles slipped to sellers £5 2s 6d, while Hume Pipes were quoted at 19s 2d and 19s 3d. M f Leod Brothers were quoted this morning, after a long absence, buyers at £32 5s being answered at £33 10s. Woolworths (N.Z.) recovered 5s to buyers £5 ss. The Australian mining section was weaker. Mount Lyells eased to close quotations at £2 Is fid and £2 Is 7d, while Mount Morgans dropped to 12s 4d and 12s 6d, after business late yesterday at tho latter price. Barrier companies also slipped, tho preference issue of Electrolytic Zincs losing 2s on sellers’ quotations. Local gold mining was quiet and easy. Clulha Rivers, although the latest return reveals that 1720 z of gold were recovered last week, dropped back further to buyers Is 3d. Consolidated Goldfields were quoted ex div. at sellers 14s. Nokomais had sellers at tho better price of 2s 9d. CALCUTTA JUTE PRODUCTION

Industrial trouble in Calcutta jute mills had a marked effect upon production in April. For that month, the output was 74,890 tons, which was lower than the quantity produced in April, 1935, when the mils were working only 40 hours a week and had 15 per cent, of their machinery out of commission. In that month the production was 76,464 tons. In April this year the Calcutta ‘ Capital ’ states, hessian production was 11,99,99,700 yards, against 10,57,35,000 yards in April, 1935, and sacking was 9,39,30,QOO yards, against 10,64,97,000 yards.
