THE LISTENERS’ LEAGUE

TO THE EDITOR. Sir—l think that Mr A. Rowan has struck the right chord. If the Listeners’ League was led •by different officers and with the object, 'not of condemning the attitude of the Government and the efforts of the YA officials, and boosting the B stations, but of helping the officials that control broadcasting it could he of untold value.'®’ Let the league take the attitude of the ratepayers’ associations in relationship to the City Council and get together to further tho interests of tho listeners and not hinder them, as it is doing at present and has been doing for some considerable time past. I am confident that “ the points which have cropped up and caused our Government to take a different view,” as stated by “ L.5.D.,” have made all the difference to the' • programme mapped out by tho Government. I have made extensive inquiries from North Island listeners regarding 'the programmes broadcast by the ZB stations, and am told that people are more than satisfied. These stations have become the most popular in New Zealand. I would suggest that, in fairness to all concerned, we should wait and see before condemning or even passing judgment on the Government scheme. One word regarding the B stations before concluding. If they are to be subsidised, I think that listeners -should demand that they be brought up to Government standard, both regarding transmission and announcing, which is without exception appalling. —I am, etc., June 30. W. N. Re at.
