STRICKLAND BEATS BARLUND Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 28. Maurice Strickland, the New Zealand heavy-weight boxer, gained the decision in a 10-round bofit against Gunnar Barlund, who was disqualified for holding an the seventh round. The match took place at Earlscourt. Barlund attacked early, but Strickland used his right effectively. He held his own, exchanging punches freely. Barlund continued a fast two-handed attack, but with little success owing to Strickland’s clever defence. Barlund was cautioned for holding in the fifth round, and a repetition of the offence brought disqualification. LEWIS BEATS REDDISH WASHINGTON, Juno 29. John Lewis, the world’s light-heavy-weight champion, won the decision in a 10-round non-title bout against another negro, Willie Reddish.
