IMPORTANCE OF VETERINARY SCIENCE ESTABLISHMENT OF COLLEGE ANTICIPATED [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Juno 29. The fourteenth annual conference of the Now Zealand Veterinary Association began to-day, Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., presiding. The conference was opened by Dr T. D. M. Stout, president of the New Zealand branch of the [British Medical Association. ‘Dr Stout-referred to the relationship between the medical and the veterinary profession, and urged the desirability of further co-operation. “It has occurred to mo that it might bo possible for us to combine at our Medical School in Dunedin the preliminary scientific training necessary in both professions,” he said. _ “ With regard to the further training of veterinary surgeons, I think we may look forward in the future to the establishment of a veterinary college in New Zealand, where our students may bo trained in all branches of the curriculum. In his presidential address, Mr Kyle said the association had passed through a successful year. There had never been a time in the history of the Dominion when the veterinary profession had been of such importance. “ During the last year primary produce to tho value of £(50,000,000 has left our shores,” said tho speaker. “The incroaso is chiefly due to the higher prices for wool, but tho veterinary profession plays an important part in sheep husbandry, and its hall mark has to he placed on all dairy produce exported.” Mr W. C. Barry (Wellington), who is at present in Java, was elected president, and tho following council jvas elected:—Messrs W. T. Collins (Wellington), W. Peirson (Gore). J. M'llwaine (Wellington), H. S. S. Kyle (Riccarton). Dr C. S. M. Hopkirk (Wallacevillc) was reappointed secretary and treasurer, with Mr V. G. Cole ns assistant.

It was decided to recommend to the Department of Agriculture that Commonwealth Scrum Laboratory products bo distributed only through registered veterinary surgeons, except that enterotoxsemia vaccine and black disease vaccine might bo supplied direct to farmers, but that in no case should chemists bo permitted to act ns secondary distributors. The council was given power to make representations about the Anaesthetic Bill being sponsored by'the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
