WHITEBAIT SEASON
BETTER SUPPLIES ANTICIPATED NORTHERN PROSPECTS [Per United Press Association.] ’AUCKLAND, June 29. The prospects for the whitebait season, which will bo opened on Thursday, are generally fairly bright. The manager of a largo Auckland retail firm stated that good quantities of the fish have recently been seen running in the rivers and streams of tho Waikato district, which provided tho main Auckland supply. Given fine weather, better supplies q,f whitebait than last year are anticipated, but the early catches will probably be affected by the recent heavy rains. No indication of what prices would be ruling could be given by retailers, although it was thought the rates should be lower than those ruling during the early part of last season.
