It was a non-title match. BISHOP BEATS DOWNES ' [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 28. A professional welter-weight contest between Herb Bishop (Australia) and Bamey Downes (Wellington) ended in a win for Bishop on points at the end of the scheduled 12 rounds. The outstanding feature of the match was the ability of the Wellington man to absorb punishment. He had taken part in but four professional matches prior to this, and he was opposed by a. man who had had a wide experience against Australian and American boxers. After a good showing by Downes in the first round, Bishop was always master of the situation. He appeared merciful in not attempting to knock out the Wellington man, who -was ever ready to mix it. Downes received a good ovation at the end of the bout.
