TRICK EFFECTED IN BUTCHERY [Pek United Pkess Association. - ! AUCKLAND, Juno 29. Entering a butcher’s shop in the city, Arthur C’o,lin Larkin bought a pound of chops with a 10s note. After receiving change he bought a roast of beef for Is 3d, paying for the joint in silver and copper. Holding the silver in his hand, Larkin asked the butcher for the 10s note. He handed the butcher 10s in silver and asked that he be given a £1 note. This the butcher gave him, whereupon he left the shop. The butcher followed him to a hotel bar, but Larkin denied that ho had a 10s note. This was the story told hy the police this morning when Larkin appeared in the Police Court on summons and pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing 10s, the property of It. and W. Hellaby Ltd. The police said Larkin had been in trouble before, and the art of ringing the changes was one of his old tricks. The magistrate, Mr M'Kean, imposed a fine of £5 or one month.
