Goldstein in tho play-off for the Australian chess championship, winning three of six games. Goldstein won one and the other two were drawn. This match became necessary as the result of a quadruple tie between Purdy, Goldstein, Koshnitsky, and Hastings. Previously Purdy had defeated Koshnitsky and Goldstein had defeated Hastings.
