[From Our Balclutba correspondent.] June 25. MANCHESTER UNITY. Th© half-yearly election and installation of officers of the Loyal Dalton Lodge took place this week, P.G. Bro. R, Culhert being installing officer, assisted by P.G.s and members of Kaitangata Lodge. Th© following are the officers for the next term; —G.M., Bro. P. Deaker; N.G., Bro. F. Hallum; V.G., Bro. V. Keach; E.S., Bro. A. Gordon; W., Bro. M. Cochrane; G., Bro. G. Houliston. The annual combined ball under the auspices of Loyal Dalton and Princess Elizabeth Lodges is to be hold in the Britannia Theatre on Wednesday of next week (June 30), and arrangements are well in hand. The music will he dispensed by Stewart’s Imperial Dance Band, of Dunedin, -and the catering will be of th© usual high standard. It is expected ■ that there will be a large attendance. The election and installation of officers of the Loyal Pride of Kaitangata Lodge also took place ; this week. G.M. Bro. F. Bisset was in charge, and he was assisted by P.G.s from Loyal Dalton and local officers. Officers installed were:—G.M., Bro. J. Leishman; N.G., Bro. W. Hughes; V. Bro. G. W. (Finch; E.S., Bro. A. Leishman; W., Bro. G. P. Pennell; T.G., Bro. W. vShore. P.G. Bro. J. H. Guest, chairman of the South Otago Friendly Societies’ Hospital Benefit Association, gave an address on matters appertaining to the working of the society, and after answering several questions, it was decided to apply for affiliation, and delegates were appointed to attend a special meeting to be held at an early date. 4ZR CLOSES DOWN. Last night, South Otago’s broadcasting station closed down after being some six years in operation, the station having been purchased by the Government. Mr B. R. Renton originated and constructed t]ie station, which secured a license to broadcast in 1931, and with the assistance of Mr M. Morrison and Mr E. B. Lothian as announcer, successfully carried on for 18 months. Mr Morrison’s interests were then taken oyer by Mr C. G. Clark, and the station was remodelled, and broadcasting took place from Grant and Clark’s shop, Balclutha. Some 18 months ago a South Otago Broadcasting Association was formed, with Mr G. M'Bride as president, and a new and more up-to-date plant was installed in Sinclair’s Buildings, Clyde street. During its existence, “ The Melodious Voice of South Otago ” has been heard on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and on two occasions on Sundays, and listeners-in have greatly enjoyed the programmes presented. Announcers who have been associated with the station have been Miss E. Downes (“ Aunt Edith,” who conducted a children’s session), Messrs E. B. Lothian, A. Hayward, C. G. Clark, and G. Ridgwell, and their services have been much appreciated. Last night as a finale an extended programme was “ put over the air,” announcers and operators being in attendance. They each conducted a short session, and signed off after a few appropriate words of farewell, the session closing down at midnigKt. MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING. The weekly shoot of the Balclutha Small Bore Rifle Club was held last night, when there was again a large attendance, and some good shooting was seen. Handicaps were in vogue for the first time, but, as four shoots have to he completed, there were several who could not obtain these. The limit, with handicap, is 79, a “ possible ” ' of 80 only being obtainable off the rifle. Ton score off the rifle was C. Falconer with 77. This member had a handicap which gave him a nett score of 79. Other good scores off the rifle were R. M'Bride, D. H. Tilson, D. Malcolm, R. Arbuthnott. and W. Elliott 76, L. Harvey and C. Clode 74, P. Chirnsrde, L. Scott L. Geddes, N. Cross 73, J. C. Morris H. Sinclair. L. Thomson, E. Morrisi M. Faigan 72, W. Black, A. M'Ewan, G. Tosh /I, >L Keach, W. Mavne. J. Barclay 70, C.
