DIAMOND SMUGGLING
OPERATIONS OF LARGE “ RING " MANY ARRESTS IN NEW YORK. Press Association— By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, June 23. A Federal grand jury indicted 55 persons, including 13 women, on charges of smuggling diamonds. The accused aro alleged to be members of the largest and most elaborate diamond smuggling “ ring ” that has ever operated in the United States. The accused are charged with having brought in 13,000,000 dollars’ worth of gems illicitly, during the past seven years. Many of those indicted are from Antwerp, and that city is ostensibly considered the centre of the “ ring’s ” activities.
