GRADUAL IMfNVEMENT The following weather forecast wai Issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—-Dunedin, Port Chalmers. Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, River* ton, Orepnki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:— The cyclone responsible for the present spell of stormy weather is now passing away eastwards, and an intense anti-cyclone centred near Tasmania extends across the Tasman Sea on to southern New Zealand, and pressure has _ risen considerably over thfe Dominion. Forecast: Moderate southerly winds. Weather cold and changeable, with scattered showers in eastern ana southern coastal areas, but gradually improving. Seas moderate. RAIN CEASES. Though rain fell almost without a break yesterday, and continued all last evening, the showers in Dunedin this morning were light and scattered, and it was evident that an improvement would be speedily noticeable. This was realised at noon, when the sky was clearing rapidly and the fall of rain has ceased altogether. Temperatures, which had been cold early, began to become milder, while only a light’ west-south-westerly wind blew. Barometric pressure was rising at 31.25 in at noon, when the respective maximum and .minimum thermometer readings were 40 and 38.5 deg. Yesterday over a 24-hour period, the registrations at the Gardens were 43 and 35deg, while the rainfall was .07in. A frost of 7deg was recorded last evening. Sunshine appeared at 1 p.m. :
