TO-MORROW'S FOOTBALL

RUGBY The second round of first grade matches will commence to-morrow. The attraction at Carisbrook will be the return match between Southern and Pirates. This match provided a well-tested game in the first round, when Southern won by Bto 3. Pirates have since shown considerable improvement in their play. As a curtainraiser Union and Technical, the two leading teams in the fifth grade, will meet. At the Caledonian Ground, University A will play Dunedin. Though University A has not been playing quite up to its previous standard, it can be depended upon to put up a bright, spectacular game. Dunedin has a solid pack of forwards, and the backs have also been showing good form. At Bishopscourt, Kaikorai will meet Zingari. In the first round this provided a very closely-contested game, Kaikorai winning in the last stage of the match by a potted goal. At Tahnna Park Alhambra will meet Union. In the first round this match resulted in a drawn game, 9 all. At Mosgiel, University B will play Taieri. Official guides, containing full particulars of teams and players, and other interesting matter, will be on sale at the Otago Sports Depot, Jacobs’s, and at the various grounds. If Carisbrook is unfit the curtain-raiser will be played at Logan Park No. 3 at 2.45. SOCCER The principal match of interest to be played this week is that between Mosgiel and Northern, at Logan Park, and patrons should witness bright and exciting football. Although Northern is three points behind on the championship table, the chib has still a good fighting chance for the honours, and the members of the team are looking forward with confidence to the result of the game. The improved play of the side since the beginning of the season was demonstrated last week, when it drew with High School Old Boys. Mosgiel, on the other hand, is playing well at present, and in anticipation of a close game, will be at its best to hold its present position on the table. Old Boys, which at the present time are equal in cup points with Mosgiel, play Maori Hill at Prospect Park, and the remaining matches are Seacliff and Mornington, at Mornington, and Technical and Roslyn-Wakari, at Ellis Park.
