ROSLYN-KAIKORAI RATEPAYERS

MEETING OF ASSOCIATION The monthly meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ .Association was held last night, Mr P. L. Ritchie presiding over a large attendance of mem hers. A letter was received from the factor of the Presbyterian Church Board of Property (Mr A. M'Hutchon) stating that he had written to the City Council regarding certain repairs to bluntly Avenue, which were requested by the association, and was 'now awaiting a reply. The Town Clerk wrote advising that the city engineer had been instructed to proceed with the kerbing and channelling of the northern side of Taieri road, from Walter street to Tyne street.

Further advice was received from the, town clerk that the crossing from Delta and Gamma streets opposite the tram steps and the Roslyn bowling green would be removed. It was decided to co-operate with the Automobile Association (Otago) asking that Kaikorai Valley road be declared a main highway. Satisfaction was expressed that the now footpath at Robin Hood quarry was almost completed, but it was pointed out that the sports ground on tins reserve was very sodden, and required draining. A deputation of residents, headed by Mr 11. S. Black, waited on the association and emphasised the desirability of the City Council keeping the public informed as to its intentions regarding the Ros'lyu cable tramway. It was stressed that _if it were proposed to substitute Deiscl buses for the cable trams, ilicsc vehicles could not be

tested too exhaustively’ before any change was effected. The deputation suggested that a special committee of residents act in conjunction with the association in keeping the ratepayers informed of any move in this direction, and that, if possible, a public meeting be called to ventilate the matter. The general feeling in Roslyn and Kaikorai was all against any change, ns it was considered that the present tram service was perfectly reliable. The Chairman said that the association was in sympathy with the deputation’s views, and assured it that, if necessary, a public meeting would be called.
