WANGANELLA IN STORM
RUNNING A DAY LATE SPEED REDUCED TO FIVE KNOTS [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 23. Having encountered a storm in the Tasman, the Wanganella will arrive tomorrow, a day late from Sydney. A radio message from the Wanganella states that the vessel is battling against head-on seas and a 75-biile-an-hour gale. The Wanganella had been compelled to reduce her speed to five knots for 40 hourl. The trip was the roughest for some years. The storm struck the vessel at 5 a.m. on Sunday, 80 miles off Sydney, and continued at 75 to 80 miles an hour until noon on Monday. In the afternoon the wind eased, leaving an exceptionally heavy swell. The Wanganella was pitching very heavily and shipping a good deal of water forward. The weather to-day was relatively calm, but there was still a bad swell. There were few passengers in the dining saloon until lunch time yesterday.
