‘LADY PRECIOUS STREAM ’

The Otago University Dramatic Society’s first major production for 1937, ‘ Lady Precious Stream, will be presented in the Allen Hall to-morrow and Saturday nights. This famous Chinese play by S. I Hsiuug which ran three years in London, and has not previously been produced, in Australia or New Zealand, should . provide a wealth of interest for audiences, with its humour, picturesqueness, and brilliant costuming, while the traditional Chinese manner of staging lends added interest for students of the stage The storv concerns tho riso of Jisieii Ping Kuei from the humble post of gardener in the household of the Prime Minister Wang, to the exalted position of King

of the warlike Western Regions, and the hardships and ultimate happiness of his wife, Lady Precious Stream-The cast is a large one, with Dons Craig in the role of Lady Precious Stream, and Henry Williams playing the part of Hsieh Ping Kuei, the poetio Eardener-soldier. Other leading parts are taken by Eric Chartens, Ngaire Glue, Norma Bain, Lydia ' Moya Ripley, Jack Allen, and Ernest! Duncan. The production is in the capable hands of Mrs 0. C.,-StepheM,-and the new stage in Allen Hall provides an excellent setting for this on** tertaining play.
