Her allotment is 22,000 freight carcasses of frozen mutton. ST. LUKE'S ANGLICAN CHURCH The attendance of parishioners for the annual meeting of St. Luke’s Church was augmented by a large representation from Newborough. The Ven. Archdeacon Russell presided. The report and balance sheet were commented upon by the churchwarden, Mr A. Bloch, who stated that the parish funds had suffered as the result of the epidemic; besides, the response to the church’s appeals had been disappointing. They were hopeful of increased prosperity reflecting better returns in the coming year, not only to meet accounts, but also to provide for the restoration of the stipends of the_ clergy. He thanked parishioners for their many kindnesses during his long illness. Archdeacon Russell spoke at length on missions, and pointed out that £ls was yet required to meet the quota of £l2O. As regards the parish, it was comforting to know that no debt existed on the buildings. “ The church and hall is showing serious signs of decay, and a sum of at least £l,ooo_ could be spent on repairs and renovations,’’ said Sir H. C. Lightwood in deprecating the feeling of selfsatisfaction that things were improving. He thought an should he made immediately to establish a fund to have the work put in hand. Supporting the previous speaker, the Rev. B, O. Plumb contended a good debt was a healthy thing in a church. He urged, however, that part of the sum proposed be devoted towards the renovation of the Sunday school. The following officers were elected: — Vicar’s warden, Mr H. E. Williamson; parishioners’ warden, Mr_ A. Bloch; vestrymen—Messrs W. Atkinson, G. E. Hollands, H. J. Jenkins, H. C. Lightwood, A. Millar, W. R. D. Naylor, S. M. Taylor, W. K. Tomlinson, and J. H. Treseder; auditor, Mr A. W. Woodward. . Appreciation was expressed of the good services over a period of years affected by Mr W. Naylor, as secretary of the young men’s Bible class, and Mrs Shanahan for the Newborough Church. Votes of appreciation were also passed to Mr W. H. Harbour, now resident in Dunedin, and Messrs A. Omhler and C. Rickman (retiring vestrymen). During the evening songs were rendered by Mrs H. E. Stamford and Mr P C. Burry, the latter officiating as accompanist. At a subsequent meeting of the vesffy Messrs Naylor and Williamson were re-elected secretary and treasurer respectively.
