% ANNUAL SHOW OPENS ; OVTtTAKttMi EXHIBITIW OF BIBBS A weird variety of bird noises filled the air at . the Brydone Hall this morning, when, the fifty-eighth annual show of the Dunedin Fanciers’ Club opened. It is an outstanding show, with the biggest entry for many years. The total is 1,387, as against 1,116 for last year, made up as follows:—Poultry 212 (167 last year), pigeons 264 (197), canaries 275 (298), budgerigars 264 (155): finches and foreign birds 83 (23), cats 15 (10), children’s pets 49 (55), dogs 225 (211). In particular, the display of finches and foreign / ■ birds, is the best the club has ever had. The budgerigars will also attract much interest. The other sections are all strongly represented, and it is quite clear that breeders have excelled themselves in bringing forward exhibits equally arresting in their quality and range. The birds are in excellent condition, and the cages and pens are attractively arranged to show them off at their best. Tne judges were on the job early this morning and were faced with what would seem to a layman a baffling task in distinguishing between a host of brilliantly plumaged birds. The finches, foreign birds, and budgerigars have many curiously beautiful colourings, and were closdy inspected by visitors to the show. Results at time of going to press:— BUDGERIGARS Judge: Mr J.
