WEATHER FORECAST

CLOUD AND MIST INCREASING The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office. Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers. Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay : A deep cyclonic depression is centred about 500 miles west of Capa Maria Van Diemen and moving slowly eastwards. Forecast: Light to moderate east to south-easterly winds, tradually freshening; weather fair at rst, but cloud and mist increasing, and later scattered rains probable; seas slight to moderate. A WHITE FROST. Twelve degrees of frost were recorded at the Gardens last evening, and testimony to the intense cold of the evening was borne by the whiteness of the ground in the suburbs this morning, where ice had formed in the scattered pools. A low-lying mist made its appearance in the city early this morning, while temperatures maintained a low level, but showed a tendency to rise slightly towards noon. Barometric pressure was falling at 28. Sin at this time, and the respective maximum and minimum thermometer readings were 37.2 deg and 32deg. The registrations over a 24-hour period yesterday were 47.5 deg and 29.9 deg. A fine but cool afternoon was promised at' midday.
