Miss Ross presided over tho following members:—Mcsdanics C. Mackie Begg, ,T. R. Fnirbairn. G. F. Fowler, H. P. Kidson, J. Malcolm, H. H. Parata, H. I). Skinner, T. Somerville, H. K. Wilkinson. B- Adams and Dr E. Gregory tendering their resignations. Those were received with regret, and a motion was passed expressing appreciation of the valuable assistance to the board which they had given. Correspondence was also received from the Otago Women’s Centennial Committee.

Tho financial statement for the past month was adopted and current accounts passed for payment. The devotional period was conducted by Mrs Parata, who read from Edward Wood’s hook, ‘ Everyday Religion,’ tho chapter on ‘ The Problem of Living Together.’ The report from the hostel showed that there were 52 residents and seven transient visitors in the house. During the month G 8 applicants for accommodation had to he refused owing to lack of room. Tho house and cafeteria secretary reported that various minor repairs had had to be carried out in the building, and that the stage in the hall had been improved. The health and recreation report showed that 29 teams wore playing basketball, and the hockey, badminton, and dancing groups were very active. The Girl Citizens’ and Senior Clubs’ report also showed progress. The general secretary reported on tho meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary and the National Council of Women. She stated that a new typewriter was urgently needed. Mrs Mackio Begg reported on the meeting of tho special committee set up to consider tho state and adequacy of tho present Y.W.C.A. premises. Figures showed that large sums had been spent on repairs and renovations during the past three years, and the committee strongly recommended that tho question of rebuilding at an early date be kept in view. The present buildings were inadequate and a constant source of expense, and did not meet tho demands made on them, and the need for an up-to-date hostel and club rooms was very urgent. Mention was made of the approaching diamond jubilee, and it was agreed that this would give the opportunity for some special effort being made for rebuilding. Miss Stevenson spoke of the National Convention to be held in Dunedin, probably in May, 1938, and the need for definite plans. She also stated that Miss Ethel Law, M.A., the newly-ap-pointed national general secretary, would arrive in Now Zealand in September and commence her duties in October. It was probable that she would visit Dunedin before the end of the year. Members took the opportunity of bidding farewell to Miss Stevenson, who is retiring from the Y.W.C.A. in November.
