OBITUARY

HR J. E. ROBERTSON Through the death of Mr J. E« Robertson at his residence, Roseneath, Sawyers Bay, Port Chalmers has lost a well-known figure. Mr Robertson was born in Victoria 75 years ago and as an infant came to the port with his parents in 1863. His father (Captain Robertson) was a seafaring man, but it was the desire of the son to take up a business career, and at the age of 13 years he commenced butchering. While still a young man he was able to establish his own business at Port Chalmers which he successfully conducted almost to the time of his death. He was a - popular figure with the graziers, auctioneers, stockmen, and fellow tradesmen with whom ire came into contact during bis business life. For the last 35 years or so Mr Robertson lived at Roseneath, Sawyers Bay, where his wife predeceased him 34 years ago. He is survived by three sons, Messrs E. J., John, and Geoffrey Robertson who are carrying on the business and by a daughter. Mrs W. L. Booth, of Wanganui. . His remains were interred in the Port Chalmers 'cemetery, the service at the graveside being conducted by Mr A. D. Robertson, student missioner at the Sawyers Bay Presbyterian Church, and the high esteem in which Mr Robertson was held by the community was reflected in the cortege, which was one of the largest seen in the district for many years.
