HOSPITAL MEDICAL STAFF
AUCKLAND APPOINTMENTS CHALLENGED " MAKING EFFICIENT SERVICE DIFFICULT " [Per United Press Association.] • AUCKLAND, April 26. The honorary staff of the Auckland Hospital has passed the following resolution “1. That in the opinion of the staff as a whole the recent election of the honorary staff by the board has resulted in a general upset of the working of the /hospital, which the staff deplores. “ 2. That in the opinion of the staff this position arises from the following conditions:—(a) That the requirements of section 38 of the Act were not complied with; (b) that the elections resulted in the nomination for appointment of an honorary surgical staff, so comprised as to make efficient service by this staff extremely difficult and most unlikely; (c) that this result was largely due to a personal canvass of the board members by some members of the staff elected in 1935 and others, to the prejudice of a fair election on merit; (d) that allegations' of iplump voting at the ballot have been freely made by members of the board and have not been refuted or denied, and that these allegations are undermining th confidence of the staff and, in their opinion, of the public in the board and in the fairness of the present election; (e) that should, plumping be found to have occurred it should bo held ns a clerfh indication of bias, and such votes should be disallowed as invalid or the election quashed; (f) that the appointment of the professional personnel to the medical staffs by members of hospital boards has proved unsatisfactory, and the system calls for reform.”
