OAMARU ITEMS

RIVERS UNFISHABLE Boisterous weather and swollen rivers militated against angling successes over the week-end. The Waitaki River has been in a state of flood for some time, and recently came down very dirty. Anglers who braved the elements in search of the salmon were disappointed, as the river was unfishable. The Kakanui River was in slightly better order, but the support accorded this river was negligible. With the present prevailing conditions it is not expected that the Waitaki River will be fishablo for some days. SHIPPING NOTES The Waipahi is announced to load at Oamaru on Tuesday, May 1, for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth via ports. _ , The Wingatui is due to load here on Monday, May 10, for Wellington and Auckland via ports. , The Wainui will load here on Wednesday, April 28, for Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne via ports. The Waikouaiti, from Australian ports, is expected here about the end of the month. On completion of discharge she will load for Sydney and Newcastle via Bluff. ' . The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the s.s. Tongariro is allotted to load here (on May 26) refrigerated and general cargo for West Coast of England and London ports. Her allotment will be 12,000 freight carcasses for West Coast of England ports and 15,000 for London. The vessel will also load about 300 tons of potatoes.
