BASKETBALL. The annual meeting of the South Otago- Basketball Association was held on Saturday,-:’ 1 Miss M‘Leod presiding. The -following -office-bearers were elected :—Mrs A. R. Dreaver,: president; Mrs E. B. Lothian, senior vicepresident ;■ Kidd, junior vice-presi-den; Miss M'Leod, secretary and treasurer. It was* decided l to open the season on May ;1 with a knock-out tournament. anzA.c day. <• The Anzac Day service was held in the Britannia Theatre yesterday afternoon, when, despite the bad weather, there was a good attendance. The Rev. Mr Greenslado presided, and was assisted by the Rev. Mr Miller. Hon. W Downie Stewart, of Dunedin, delivered the address, and after the service a parade took place to the memorial, where the mayor (Mr Fleming) placed a wreath, Mr P. Deaker sounded the 1 Last P6st ’ and Piper E. Gold played a lament. COURSING. The South 01 go Coursing Club held its opening meeting on Saturday, when weather conditions were anything but favourable. Some good was seen in the open event for the Guest Cup. the hares being strong and running well. In the maiden a tin hare was used for the first time, and the innovation was quite interesting, although the coursing was not as good as if live hares had been used. Mr D. Sinclair was judge, Mr G. Sinclair slipper, Mr Gold cull steward, C. Garside assistant secretary, Mr K. Cnlbert judge’s clerk, and .Mi’ G. Rawson bare steward. Results —

T, Irving, seed salesman at the Balclutha branch of Wright, Stephenson, and Co., has received notification of his transfer to the Dunedin office. Mr Irving has taken a keen interest in sporting circles during his residence here, particularly in football and golf. His successor will be Mr S. Bishop, of Dunedin.

DENTAL CLINIC. Mr A. E. Russell presided at the annual meeting of those interested in the Balclutha dental clinic on Thursday night. The Secretary presented the balance sheet, which showed a credit of £22 16s 7d, compared with £l2 15s 8d at the start of the year. The Chairman congratulated the committee on the state of the finances, and said there were few clinics which could show such a good balance. It was gratifying to note that the clinic was appreciated by parents, and that the nui'se (Miss Bremer! was so popular with, children and parents alike. ■ The balance sheet was adopted. The Nurse reported that the uumber of attendances during the year had been 1,053, and the total operations 2.790, while at the end of November there were 305 on the roll. The following were elected a committee for the ensuing year:—Messrs A. E. Russell (chairman), G. N. Bell (secretary), D. M‘Faul, Mesdames' C. Wyber, F. L. Nicolson, E. M. Bishop, and A. I. Miller. Several matters- relative to the arrangements for the treatment of children from country schools were dis-

cussed, and the Nurse stated that sha would give talks on the care and treatment of the teeth to several women* institutes. GENERAL. This year promises to bo a memorable one for Kaitangata, in view of the fact that it will bo the Jubilee of the borough, also the jubilee of the bowling and Rugby clubs, while the sixtieth! aniversary of the Presbyterian Chufch will also be celebrated. A suggestion has been made at all the organisations concerned should get together and make a combined celebration. A meeting will b© held shortly to consider jubilee proposals. ■ The Balclutha Borough Council recently completed the installation of its new water supply plant. This comprises a filtration plant and also a system of chlorination. The result of the new system is already evident in the clear water which is now being supplied to householders, and is much appreciated. The newly-formed Kaitangata Scottish Society held its initial social evening on Thursday night, when there was a large attendance, . including visitors from the Clutha Scottish Society. _ The officers and visitors were piped in by Piper R. Carson, after which a short community sing was held. Chieftain M’Gillivray extended a welcome, and Chief Simon Wright extended congratulations on behalf of the Clutha SocietyAn excellent musical programme was presented.
