SITUATION IN AMERICA STRIKERS IN POSSESSION OF FORD PLANT Frets Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SAN FRANCISCO, April 24. The “ sit-down ” strike of 1,200 employees closed the Ford plant, and the strikers are in full possession. The leaders of the U.A.W. blamed the discrimination against union men for the trouble, and said that the company had refused to allow officials of the plant to confer with union representatives. PEACE AT 08HAWA BIG VOTE IN FAVOUR OF WORK. TORONTO, April 24. The Oshawa strikers, at a meeting, ratified the settlement of the strike by a vote of 2,205 to 36. They will return to work on Monday. Mr Hepburn, the company, and the U.A.W. each claimed victory. Mr Hepburn contended that he had prevented the C. 1.0. gaining a foothold and had halted the drive to organise. Mr Mines, of the , General Motors Corporation, said that officials of the corporation felt that th§y had signed a contract with representatives of their own employees only. The U.A.W. contended that it had won a de facto recognition for itself and the C. 1.0., since the local union mentioned in the contract was a member of the U.A.W* and was affiliated with the C. 1.0. CUNARD STRIKE SETTLED NEW YORK, April 24. . The Cunard strike has been settled. The National Independent Longshoremen's Union of Canada has received the charter of an international. COLLECTIVE BARGAINING DETROIT, April 24. The formation is announced from Flint of an independent Automobile Employees’ Association to combat the C. 1.0. This association will provide a medium of collective bargaining for thousands of motor workers who are not affiliated to unions. The association •will start with a membership of 6,000.
