Charles M‘Morrow, after his conviction. for smuggling and the imposition of a fine of £IOO or six months’ imprisonment in Dowra County Court, Leitrim, leapt from the dock, outdistanced his pursuers, plunged into the River Shannon, and swam to the other side. He headed for the Cuilcagh Mountains, on the boundary of the Free State and Ulster.
