TOMAHAWK TROUT.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —At last Tomahawk Lagoon is receiving the attention of the Research Committee. On the 10th inst. Mr Maconie and one of his committee paid a visit _to see the condition -of fish caught in the competition. They could not have arranged thefr visit at a better time. They had the privilege of examining a stripped fish from the Leith, and a poor specimen it was. The result of their examination was that there was some of last year’s spawn, very withered, and the usual clots of congealed blood, the result of immature stripping. It is to be hoped Mr Maconie will produce this fish for internal as well as external examination by the full council. Tomahawk anglers are_ interested in the result of that examination. On Saturday last a member of the Angling Committee of the society visited the lagoon and politely informed an angler that the society does not cater for the present-day angler, but for the-future generations. Is that the policy of the society? Stripping operations will soon be commencing, and it is to be hoped that more care will be taken in handling the fish to avoid the results of the last two seasons, or the society may find there will be very few fish to run up the Leith next year, —I am, etc. April 22.
