LABOUR ORGANISATION.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—ln vour issue of the 14th inst. appears a letter from Mr J. E. MacManus under above heading. Being an old Timaruvian and one of the early fighters for the principles of unionism, might I ask Mr MacManus a question? Did the shearers not have an award in 1912 on the same lines as in later years, practically a Dominion award? Furthermore, is Mr MacManus claimrng that the first organisation of public works employees m New Zea- . land is claimed by Otago? Mr MacManus and the gentleman to whom he refers, <c the late Steve Boreham,” have been in the first rank of Labour stalwarts in New Zealand, and in putting the above questions I simply seek information.—l am, etc., ™ , . D. Brown. Wellington, April 21.
