SCOTLAND “FLITTING”

Scotland, according to an official of the Glasgow Observatory, is drifting toward Ireland—and America—at the rate of more than Bft a year. Calculations show that the mainland has shifted westward 600 ft in the last 70 years. England has not joined in the movement, and, consequently, Great Brtain is apparently “ bending in two.’ Dr Kirtley Mather, professor of geology at Harvard, describes as “ extremely important to geology ” the observations at Glasgow of a drift. Somewhat similar phenomena, he said, were under observation in Greenland, Iceland, and Scandinavia. The Glasgow observations may mean something of great significance, for they are right in line with things which others have been discovering.
